Introduction to Clinical Report Layout
In this topic, you will learn about the components for clinical report configuration.
Configurable Clinical Reports
Insight EMR includes features that allow you to configure the layout of clinical reports, such as evaluation reports, daily chart notes and letters. You should be familiar with the clinical documentation process as well as how to select clinical reports and letters before configuring clinical reports.
Selecting Clinical Reports
From the Chart Tab, you can select different formatted reports to accommodate different needs. In this example, there are reports used to accompany Claims and formats for Daily Progress Notes, Initial Evaluations, Progress Notes and Discharge Summaries.
You can edit existing reports or create new report formats as needed.
Selecting Letter Templates
From the Client Editor, you can select any of several letter templates to simplify the process of creating and sending standard correspondence to patients.
You can edit any of the existing letter templates or create new letter templates as needed.
Access to Formatting of Reports and Letters
The forms for editing clinical reports and letters are available for users with the proper permission under Templates in the main menu:
Editing Print Layouts
Selecting Print Layouts from the Templates menu opens the Manage Print Layout dialog box:
The options provided in the Manage Print Layout dialog are used to control basic clinical report formatting, including:
- Placement of standard opening and closing statements on clinical reports
- Insertion of database fields
- Logo placement
- Insertion of Documentation Areas in the body of the report. (Subjective, Objective, Assessment, Plan, Summary, Goals)
- Formatting report footers

Editing Print Formats
Selecting Print Formats from the Templates menu opens the Edit Chart Font Formats dialog box:

Editing Grid Formats
Selecting Grid Formats from the Templates menu opens the Edit Chart Grid Formats dialog box:
This dialog box provides control over the width and appearance of grids that appear in reports and in charting.

Editing Letter Templates
Selecting Letter Templates from the Templates menu opens the Manage Letter Templates dialog box:
Letters are primarily used to communicate with physicians or patients in lieu of clinical documentation reports.
